Next Meeting 2-14

Raychel, Kathi, Maggie and Lisa (Rhinestone Roxy),

It seems our group is dwindling away - but don't despair! Let's look at it as an opportunity to "re-group" and step up our recruiting efforts. If you feel like resigning, let me know. If you're still in, see you on Valentine's and let's ROCK 2007!!! (I know I sound like a football coach or something). I just want you to know that I am still fired up about a community of smart women (no matter how small) who own businesses and want to talk about it with other smart women.

Hope you're all great!

Judi

meeting minutes by dawn

Meeting Minutes: 9.13.06
Attendees: Judi, Kathi, Lisa, Ella (our youngest and cutest member!) Maggie, Anne, Elizabeth, Dawn

-Meeting started by everyone introducing themselves and their bisinesses to our newest member, Maggie. Maggie then described her background, what she is now trying to do with her career counseling/radio host business and what her reasons for joining us are.
-We then began discussing some ideas for an imprmptu Project Cafe, sponsored by Lisa. She is looking for ways to increase public awareness of the floral design classes she offers at her studio. Everyone brainstormed and lots of ideas were offered.
-Anne's new blog... fromiwilltoido.blogspot.com
-Other interesting sites to visit: myemma.com, uncrate.com, outblush.com
-Judi will be interviewed on E Women Network on 9/24 from 8-9 pm (820 AM)
-Requests: Going forward, when Judi send the reminder for the meeting, we are requesting that everyone respond, whether you are attending or not. Also, for any correspondence, ideas or thoughts, please utilize the blog that Elizabeth worked so hard on for us. Thanks!
-Things to think about for our next meeting: a name for our group, a possible new location (more comfortable and set up for a better way to exchange ideas), ideas for uses for our extra money collected from dues, possible replacements for our members that have left the group (trying to think about what types of businesses would keep the group diverse)

Ladies,

I really enjoyed the meeting this morning and I am excited about our next meeting on October 11th. Thanks to Elizabeth for working on this blog to make sure everyone has access. Let's use it to communicate more frequently during the month.

The Ladies Who Launch Live event is on October 19th, from 9-4 at the Altman Building on 18th Street, btwn 6th and 7th. I am planning to register and attend. Pre-registration is $125. If you are interested in attending, please let me know so we can go together.

September 13th Meeting

Hi Ladies,

I love this time of year because the weather is so perfect, the city is back to normal and in my business...no one can avoid meeting with me because they don't 'think about money in the summer' - hate that!!!

I want our group meetings to be valuable to everyone and as impactful as they can be. I really encourage everyone to attend the meeting this coming Wednesday and come prepared to get back to business!!! The best meetings are the ones that are well attended and prepared for - so please make your best effort to be there! I will be working on the agenda for Wednesday this weekend and had a few thoughts to share with you....

When we first started, we discussed an agenda that included a project cafe, "I spy" sharing of articles or websites on business topic the group can use, and a book exchange. Since no one has volunteered for the cafe this month, I will ask for members to volunteer three subjects we can brainstorm during that part of the agenda for this coming meeting. Also, I will leave time for anyone to submit ideas for other agenda items they would like permanently added.

If anyone would like to be added to the agenda on any other topic, please feel free to e-mail me at judith.a.rosenthal@ampf.com.

Let's motivate to inspire ourselves with the powerful energy we all have. I want to leave the next meeting with some great ideas for growing - personally and professionally. I hope you everyone feels the same!

Your friend and 'president' :-)

Does anyone know of a good bookkeeper who is familiar with Quickbooks (particularly the retail version)? I need someone probably a week a month, and would prefer a personal recommendation. Thanks so much for your help -

Meeting Minutes from Dawn for 5.9.06

Hi Everyone..

I apologize in the delay in getting these notes to you (especially those of you who were unable to attend the last meeting).

*Project Cafe, General
We spoke about the concept of Project Cafe and suggested making it a smaller portion of our meeting time. Right now it takes up half of the meeting, which really leaves us no time for discussion about broader topics that we may have questions about (ie: insurance, accounting procedures, etc...) We agreed that it should be shorter and that it would be a good idea that even after the meeting to continue thinking about the project and post any additional ideas on the blog.

*Project Cafe: Elizabeth, Marketing Ideas
Elizabeth's challenge is how to get people to understand the breadth of her services and comprehend that they are all offered as a complete package. How would it be best to showcase these services on her website so that they will be easy for clients to understand? Most were in agreement that it would be best to have a separate website to promote her photography (particularly wedding/portraiture) so as not to confuse potential business clients, nor detract from the photography aspect of her business, which she is very passionate about.

In terms of potential clients and how to find them, some suggestions were: existing businesses that either needed a facelift or were adding a new element to their business, Chamber of Commerce members, referrals, publications (ie: Photo District News)

*Some websites that were mentioned that may be of interest:
www.cherylhoffman.com (Anne's illustrator)
www.myemma.com (web based service that helps you to manage your email mktg)

*Judi: Estate Planning
Judi has an idea that she is working on getting out there into the world of publishing. It is basically a tool that would aid an individual in the preparation and organization of their estate planning. It is an accordian file based system with sections for all pertinent documents (ie: health care proxy, will, power of attorney, etc...) She put the idea out to the group and had a very positive response. The next step is finding a publisher who will work with her to get it out on the market.

*Misc:
Giselle has emailed Judi & I and decided not to continue with the group. She feels that her interests and needs lie in other areas and would like to pursue groups which, at this time, better suit her needs. We wish her luck in her endeavors with her Alzheimer's projects.

Our next meeting is scheduled for June 13

See you then..
Dawn

Anyone know....?

I am wondering if anyone knows someone who is a networking expert. Someone who teaches other people how to network or who makes their living as a networker. I am trying to help the host of a radio show on Martha to finds a guest with this specialty. Please let me know if you have any referrals. Thank you!

Project Cafe from Anne

Hi all-

So as I mentioned on Tuesday, I'm starting a new company, Fido Says. It is a free online newsletter for pet lovers. Think daily Candy or Urban Baby. Each newsletter will feature a pet related items: fashion & accessories, health/nutritional items, pet friendly travel (locations and accessories) and service companies (groomers, walkers, spas, sitters, etc...)

The money would of course come from the ad dollars - dedicated e-mails, banners, sky skrapers, sponsorships.

I'm partnering with my brother-in-law. He is in finance, and a dog owner.

Since this company is brand new and launching in September, I'd like to get input from all of you in every area: marketing, ad sales, editorial, what to include, what to exclude and any ideas.

Even though the company is named "Fido Says" we will be incorporating items and info about/for cats, birds, fish and other types of pets.

I'm thinking of 2 e-mails a week for the first two months, then 3 a week and then 5 days by January. There will be a website, but it will be just info and archives, similar to Daily Candy - no bulletin boards, no sales.

So that's pretty much it - this is about 10 days old, so if anything happens over the next month I'll fill you in, and please e-mail or post any questions if something isn't clear.

Project for next week - Elizabeth?

Hi all-

Just wanted to touch base about Tuesday's meeting.

Elizabeth, I think your project cafe is on Tuesday, but I don't remember getting an e-mail or reading a post about your business and what advice you are looking for. Can you send it again? I'd love to be able to have information and ideas for you when we meet.

best,

Meeting Minutes

Meeting Date: 4.11.06
In Attendance: Anne, Dawn, Elizabeth, Ellen, Giselle, Judi, Kathi, Maria, Raychel

-"I Spy"... Raychel talked about two interesting topics. The first was a program called Vocation Vacation (www.vocationvacation.com) where professionals take a "vacation" from their current career and spend a short period of time doing their "dream job". Great for people who are just curious, want to try something new or are actually considering a career change.

The other topic that Raychel brought up was advertising on Google. It is something that she is just starting with and she gave us some general info. about how to go about learning more. Calling 1 800 2 GOOGLE is the place to start. She said the reps are super helpful and can give you all of the options available from advertising to buying search words, etc... Hopefully by the next meeting Raychel will have some feedback on whether or not she is happy with the service.

-Project Cafe.... Thank you all so much for the great information and advice for my project. So much of it was really useful and Dave & I have already started putting it to use. It was great to hear everyone's perspective and different ideas on how to use our space. The next Project Cafe will focus on Elizabeth and her "project" will be posted on the blog sometime before the next meeting.

-General...
-After the last meeting a few of us lingered and casually discussed the group in general and our feelings about how it was going. After three meetings, there was definitely some feedback and points that were brought up about how to make the group better and more productive. Judi & I thought that maybe for the next meeting everyone could jot down their thoughts, opinions, ideas, and feedback regarding the group. Is it meeting your expectations, if not why and how can we achieve that? The goal is that everyone leaves the meetings feeling like it was worth their hour and a half. So, please have your ideas and feedback prepared to give to us (we won't discuss it at the next meeting). We will look them over and see if there is some consensus about the group in general. (please feel free to make it anonymous) Then, perhaps we can talk about certain topics that are of concern at the following meeting.
-Please remember to use the blog as a tool when you would like to communicate something to the group. Numerous emails going back & forth becomes inefficient and possibly bothersome. If you are having problems using the blog, please contact Elizabeth.
-It seemed like after the last meeting, we ran short on time (as usual) and there was no time for general questions. We were thinking that it would be nice to have 15-20 min for people to ask general questions (ie: do you use QuickBooks?, how do you get your health insurance?, etc...) So, we were hoping that everyone would be open to making the meeting 2 hours rather than 1 1/2. We realize everyone is busy and usually rushing off to an appt. or something, but we thought the meetings could be more productive if we had that extra 30 min. Please let us know if you are willing to do that.
-Some of you may have noticed that our group still does not have a name. Ideas? If everyone could give it some thought and come with an idea or two for the next meeting, hopefully we will end the meeting officially named.
-The next meeting is scheduled for Tues May 9. As always, if you cannot make it, please post to the blog.

See you then..

Thanks so much for setting this up, Elizabeth!
